James Patrick Candles – Amalfi Coast Review

Good Afternoon to you all! I’ve got another lovely soya-blend candle up on the blog by James Patrick today and I’m giving my full review on this. I hope everyone reading today is well and thank you for joining to all those new faces too! Happy Thursday you lot! ✌🏼

James Patrick Candles

Made In London

James kindly sent me over another candle to try out and both Jacob and myself decided to pick the ‘Amalfi Coast‘ from his growing collection of candles. I thought it would be a fun idea to try something a little lighter and fresher, compared to my reigning favourite ‘Black Pomegranate‘. I remember when James released several new scents a little while ago and it was this ‘Amalfi Coast‘ that caught my eye. It was the name. I was intrigued because it was created about a place you can visit and holiday in Italy.

The Amalfi Coast could quite easily be compared to paradise. The colourful blocks of buildings that scatter themselves alongside the coast itself and creep upwards on the cliffs like vines searching for the sun. The aqua and crystal waters are the perfect opposite, to the force and weight of the mountains that loom behind the Amalfi towns. It gives me tropical holiday quietness! Nestling yourself in a corner of the world where it is calm and peaceful and the way of life moves at a kinder pace. And that is probably the same for the scent itself from James’s candle.

The candle is just in view next to me as I stand wearing some of my favourite pieces in my bedroom, also holding a video game guidebook and PlayStation controller. I am wearing a graphic printed tee by a brand called 'Unapologaytic', shiny nylon shorts by a Polish brand called 'AASSSOXX' and my sports socks by Sk8erboy.

Hello Gorgeous!

One amazing thing James Patrick does for his customers, which some may overlook is the attention to detail. I’ll keep saying this but he has worked so hard to produce a product, that from the moment it arrives is a gift from himself to you. From the un-boxing and on-wards to the lighting of the candle flickering. He is an artist that is bringing you mood changing scents one candle at a time. 🕯

I actually get super excited when the postman knocks on my door and this sticker-covered parcel arrives! I’m so grateful to be an ambassador for James, as his products are products I actually want to get behind. It is important too, to support those start up businesses that create a product people want and are doing it with the thought of the planet in mind. Check out below the reasons I fucking love James’s candles and his ethical branding. 🖤

So I’ve been enjoying James’s candles, amongst others when I’ve got a moment to myself. It is another thing I do to try and switch off. I’m currently working 3 different jobs (including the blog) and being a loving boyfriend and doing my share of the housework, sometimes leaves me with little time to switch off and have some much needed ‘me’ time. So when I find myself with some time, I like to sit/lie/relax in our bedroom. I make sure I’ve got the room sorted and the space around me in clean and bright. Then I choose a nice candle, like this ‘Amalfi Coast‘ variety by James Patrick and play some video games. Be it on a large console or handhold, I chill whilst the candle envelopes the space around the house in a uplifting scent. It is always a nice atmosphere when I can have the time to relax by myself. I find it is important, to keep on top of jobs, relationship and day-to-day life. I am currently playing a few old classics and really enjoying it to be fair. Even with the cutting edge graphics and newness in the gaming industry. Sometimes you just need something simpler and easy to play. I am currently playing Dragon Quest VIII [8] on my Nintendo handheld (not pictured, its orange though babes!) and Pokemon Sapphire the GBA [gameboy advance] version. I remember playing these both so long ago and the same excitement and thrill rushes back to me once I start running around in their virtual worlds. Lighting a candle is such a mood changer and can really affect how you choice to spend your time with it. What is great about James’s candles is the longevity of the scent. They are so rich and I adore that I can still smell them after they have been lit. I know it’s normal to go nose-blind but due to how clean the burn is against the soya-blend. The oils linger in the air around me and transport me to a relaxed place.

Our Verdict

So it turns out my boyfriend Jacob has been rather attached to this candle the moment it arrived at our door. Actually more so than me I would say. Don’t get me wrong I do like this fragrance, but it isn’t my favourite. Jacob on the other hand has really fallen for this scented choice. I find myself leaning back towards my ‘Black Pomegranate‘ candle by James which I reviewed earlier on.

The ‘Amalfi Coast‘ is fresh, floral, airy and has a citrus crisp to it. It is a lovely scent, it balances out freshness and zesty notes beautifully. But for me personally I am unsure why i have mixed feelings with it. I mentioned above that it isn’t my favourite. That being said I don’t not like it. I think because of its unusual palette my nose picks out the floral scents [Freesia/Lavender] more prominently than the rest of the notes mixed inside. It does contain a mixture of my favourite ingredients though and maybe I find it unusual as I’ve never experienced them all fused together as one formulaic scent? The ‘Amalfi Coast‘ candle is a mixture of:

  • Freesia
  • Fresh Lime
  • Lavender
  • Mandarin

Another thing I like is the fact the ‘Amalfi Coast‘ fits in beautifully on my chest of drawers in mine and Jacobs bedroom. The blue swatch of colour from the label fits alongside my collection of Cornish blues and greens. Not really important to anyone really but I like how it found its place in our room. Now I’m really excited to try and make some time for myself soon to pop on one of James’s candles and have some ‘me’ time. Did anyone say Grey’s Anatomy marathon anyone?
