[Style News] – Summertime Sadness In Dark Florals

Hello readers, many thanks for reading with me today. I wanted to write about dark floral prints, especially for this summer. I’ve written below a personal concept, that touches on my views on dark floral prints.

Lana Del Rey – ‘Money, Power, Glory’

A gentle, yet raw track for those summertime days. Great for adding to a playlist.

A few weeks back whilst I attended the Alexander McQueen ‘Savage Beauty’ exhibition, I was in Central London. It was glorious, seeing my idols work in person, the sun was shining and I was wearing my new bomber jacket from Fohapparel (but that is another post).

I spent some time going into the shops along Oxford Street and it was busy. I headed into Topman and New Look looking mainly for a fedora, I did not end up finding one there and then. Well that is a lie, I did find one, in the womenswear section. Shameless to say, it looked good. I did manage order myself one in Topman and the team where nothing but helpful.

Whilst I was searching for this fedora hat, I ended up taking photos of shirts I wanted to buy along the way and thought, I could write a post on these beautiful floral prints.

I hear you, “florals for spring”

Miranda herself, would ‘sashay away’ the thought of that quote. Firstly, it’s summer now, so spring has been.

Florals for summer? No…But dark florals for summer? Yes.

I absolutely adore dark floral prints. They is something romantic, dark and twisted behind the prints of a dark floral shirt.

Now personally, I like the idea, now hear me out, of floral prints for spring. Something about new life, new promises, new hopes, new romances.

Then comes those long summer months and those trusting fantasies that spring held, are shot dead. Those arid summer days, supposedly full of love, are nothing but washed, rose-coloured pastimes. Moments that have long faded.

Summertime sadness and the concept of summer being cold, an oxymoron. It is poetic and thus, dark floral prints become a statement piece, for the hopeless romantics that adore all black looks.

They add that punch of sensitivity, into the void of black emotions that you wear.

Now, this is just a artist concept I’ve come up with. It’s all figurative.

Imagine two lovers meet in spring, its light and sweet and everything seems promising…Summer comes along and something happens between them, something ominous, something bad.

The two lovers are torn apart and the air is laced with a beautiful sadness, a dark sadness. The dark floral prints represent that attempt of holding onto that ghostly love that is still there.

It reminds of me film noir, but with a more contemporary twist. An archaic love, that was never meant to be.

Anyway, back to the original point of this blog, I wanted to share some of the prints that I had come across on the day. Let me know if you sport the dark floral style yourself. Would you consider wearing this type of fashion.
