So recently (more like a couple of weeks ago) I went to a bookstore and bought myself a collection of magazines! Used to buy the occasional photography magazine but since I started my fashion blog I wanted topics to cover and now I shall start to archive various fashion and other art related magazines for research and inspiration.
So spent a nice £40 on magazines and not regretting it! Going to start with subscription to Elle and Vogue so I can get them just in case I cannot make it into the bookstore!
Now being fairly new to fashion there was an awful lot of magazines to chose from. The first cover to catch my attention was the ‘British ELLE collections autumn and winter edition. This front cover had an almost orchestral approach to art and design in fashion. A symphony of colour, pattern and flair. This bold cover had my attention and I automatically opened it and began browsing the contents. The magazine contained some wonderful pages!
As you can see this is quite the wonderful cover! Let’s take a look inside!
I really like the design for the top blue dress! Look 49 – abstract jacket and dress. The way the different shades of blue/purple are brought together are wonderful!
Elegant patterns and twisted into strong yet feminine design. Again that blue for the leather coat with the fur combo.
This is a beautiful quote above – INSPIRED BY GRANDMOTHERS. WORN BY GIRLS – Simone Rocha: Comes Of Age
Personally not the biggest fan of pink as it can be a rather loud colour to work with but this shade on this style of jacket is super smart and fashionable. A strong headstrong woman keeping that professional attitude but showing some creative boundaries in the workplace.
I’ve noticed a concept of aged style of design. The era of our grandparents especially what our grandmother’s specifically would wear back in the days, with a very upright attitude towards elegance and grace. Designers today have captured that grace our grandmothers have taught their daughters and granddaughters, and how a young lady should be proper. In today’s world women are becoming stronger and as a guy I admire this! The designs here capture the traditional lady whilst giving that modern flair of design! Truly beautiful!
There is also a sense of religious influence with the use of gold and bronze and silver colours.
Now within middle of the ELLE Collections was a huge poster which until now I hadn’t even looked at! And what luck it is the stunning Sky Ferreria shot by Hedi Klum! Bonus!!
Amongst the beautiful poster (which is hung on my wall now!) Was a newspaper with little articles! Some good reading material and really love the flower hair design. So smart!!
Cara for Queen! Agreed she is so fun! My first impression of her was that she was fun and herself and not her looks! Hopefully she continues to work hard!
The end of the magazine.
So back to the main book!
Love punk design because its about breaking boundaries but also respect traditional attire and traditional values.
Loving the arty approach to these images! So simple but effective. Happy to have those as posters if I had the opportunity not to cut up my magazine for them!!
Here near the back of the book was a collection of designers most intimate self portraits so before flicking over the page was little relieved to see collection of hands and not what you are thinking (naughty!). As an artist I love drawing hands, they are what you use everyday, they physically creates art, make music and so on. You can also tell a lot of a person by their hands.
Wonderful little snaps of the hands that create these wonderful 2013 designs.
At the end was a 5 minute interview with Alexander Wang.
So the end of book comes near and we are left with some more arty pictures!
So I’ve come to an end and it feels like a journey. For my first ELLE Collections it was a good one! The designs were lovely, and as a young individual looking to become apart of the fashion world I learnt a lot! They have given me inspirations for my own designs. Such inspiring people!
As I said earlier that I spent £40 on magazines the other ones I acquired for my blog were:
All these books I am using for reference a for my blog! I’ve said I’m arty and I don’t have one passion I have many, I’ve tried to settle in one and that’s not happening (I know I know stubborn right?) I like to think of it as determined! I work hard and will one day become somebody respectable. I love fashion, designing, illustration, photography and cooking!
Like the section above of artists hands and how I liked that hands create mine are always creating, doodling or jotting down ideas. I want this blog to be strong in many areas that i love and it will one day get there! So I’ve got my fingers crossed for myself! And on a side note totally going to be making these little things
Not going to lie this picture recipe was the reason I brought one if the cooking books. That’s bad right?
Anyways so we’ve come to an end and it was a long post but hopefully a fun one! Any comments? Let me know! Below!
Thank you for reading!
